Nat Conquers Kilimanjaro for Kelly’s Heroes

Supporting mental health awareness, one step at a time.

At Ashfen Windows & Doors, we believe that giving back to our community extends beyond the workplace.

In 2024, our co-founder Nat Weaver took on one of the world’s most demanding challenges by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Kelly’s Heroes, a charity dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health support.

After an exhausting overnight ascent from Barafu Camp, battling altitude sickness, extreme fatigue and freezing conditions, Nat reached the summit after one of the toughest physical and mental challenges of her life.

Throughout the climb, she reflected on the people supported by Kelly’s Heroes and the daily struggles many face with their mental health. The experience reinforced just how important it is to continue breaking the stigma surrounding mental wellbeing and to support organisations providing life-changing services to those who need them most.

After completing her climb Nat said:

I did it! All of your support, motivation, messages and donations got me to the summit around 9:30 on Wednesday morning, after two hours’ broken sleep and the most gruelling nine-and-a-half hour solid trek from Barafu Camp up to Stellar Point – one that I never thought would end. It made me think about all those who use – or who could benefit – from the suicide prevention services provided by charity Kelly’s Heroes, and how that particular part of the trek is possibly how they might feel every single day…no end in sight and literally just trying to put one foot in front of the other to get from A to B. It became simply mind over matter for me to get to the top, not helped at all by (thankfully) mild altitude sickness symptoms, total exhaustion and sleep deprivation, and seeing people being rushed down from the summit on oxygen, which was really frightening. Don’t be fooled by my smile on this photo – I’m pretty unwell! Thank you to everyone for your unbelievable support, im now homeward bound from Heathrow and looking forward to a lovely cup of tea! You can still donate to the cause using the following link – if you were holding off sponsoring me in case I didn’t make it, rest assured I did!

We’re incredibly proud of Nat’s achievement, her determination, and the awareness she helped raise for such an important cause.
